Where can I learn basic photography within metro manila philippines? And an idea how much the enrollment is?

I’d like to learn basic photography. I dont have a camera yet coz I want to know if I could enroll first. Once I get a good school then I would buy one (slr) asap. A school or tutorial in Manila (particularly in Mand or Pasig city).

How can i learn about photography without taking classes?

I am going to get a canon t3 soon, and i want to learn a little about photography so i can control the camera better and not just take photos on auto all the time… i want a site that can explain to me about lighting, composition, and exposure.. because i cant take classes right now. does anyone know a site that does that?

I know this might come as a shock to anyone under about 30 (most especially teenageres) but believe it or not BOOKS still exist.

Try getting a couple on basic photography and go from there.

Photography: do i lose copyright when i sell a digital file?

I am starting to do portrait work and I am allowing the client to purchase copyright-free digital enlargements that would allow them to print up to 11×14" photos. When I sell them this digital file, do I still maintain the copyright? I would like it to be such that I still maintain the copyright while granting them a "license" to reproduce for personal use only.

Thoughts?

You do not need a lawyer for this. You do not lose your copyright unless you hand it over in a written contract with very specific wording. You need to sell "all right, title and interest" in your images to hand over the copyright.

When you "sell" your images you are really licensing them to the people for unlimited personal use. Spell it out like this. They have the right to reproduce the images for their own personal use. They may not license or use the images commercially or for any other use than personal display. All rights are reserved by you.

This is a very normal thing in the commercial world where you license shots all the time. You can look at trade organizations like the APA or ASMP to get more info. Good luck.

Learning lighting techniques in photography?

Can anyone suggest a good book to get the basics on lighting techinques/methods? I really enjoy taking indoor pictures and I’m interested in investing in a good system but have no idea where to start. I know there are many books out there but I’m looking for a book that explains the basic in easy to understand language and NOT a manual full of just technical terms. While I know my way around a camera and basic photography, I am at the infant stage of understanding lighting systems. If anyone has any experience with a good book that helped you… please recommended it. Thanks!

The book ‘Light: Science & Magic’ is good for technical details of lighting of various kinds.

Joe McNallys books, although based around Nikon speedlights, are very good for inspiration and he details his lighting setups – The Hotshoe Diaries and Sketching with Light are the two latest.

If I already know digital photography, do the same techniques apply to black and white film?

I’ve learned a bit about digital photography. Now I want to incorporate black and white film into my studies. The only difference i see is that with black and white film, it is good to shoot in a lot of sunlight?? unlike with color, where shade was recommended. I’m going to practice doing portraits with a friend this weekend. Does anyone have any pointers. I’ll be shooting with a canon eos rebel 2000. 35mm-80mm f4 lens, and I’ll be using a gray card.

The whole sunlight rule is because this creates sharper contrast in monochromatic pictures. Contrast automatically "attracts" the eye to your composition, but in and of itself it does not make a composition good, or ultimately the photograph for that matter. It is one of the many factors a good photographer considers before taking a picture. Do you want high contrast? Low? What is your vision? Is this factor that important? Can you compensate with it? Make compromises?

If it’s your first time, shoot three shots of every shot. One with your expected preference of shutter speed, one below and one above. This is "bracketing" your shot. Gives you more variety in your final piece. Use the lower f-stops if you’re doing portraits, most of the time, at least.

I’m self taught. Bought a camera, read some books, then got out there and started shooting. Wasted
a ton of film. But I learned how to shoot post card quality photos.
Now with digital cameras you don’t have to worry about wasting film.

Im a high school junior whos Interested in learning photography and how to use my DSLR as efficiently as I can.if anyone can point to a good direction at where to start and sometips would be nice too

You have a good interest to learn digital photography.
You can not be a good photographer over night. To become a good photographer you need to work hard and keep focusing on your topic. I can give you some suggestion. I think it will work.

1. First of all, the digital camera you use should be an slr (single lens reflex) camera that lets you set it to fully manual, and allows for lens changes.

2. Take one basic photography class if possible. It doesn’t have to be an expensive college class or a professional class. It can be a class at your local community center. The most important thing is to have a professional photographer around that you can learn from. It also helps to have others around who are also learning, that way you can learn from them.

3. If you can’t take a photography class (and even if you can) find a photography book that covers the basics of using an slr camera. Read through each chapter once and then go out and shoot. Take it with you when you go out shooting.

4. Download some photography projects from the web that tell you step by step how to shoot various subjects to get different effects.

5. Don’t wait until you have an event to go to learn digital slr photography. They say practice makes perfect, so take your camera, your book or project sheet and go somewhere. It should be a place that you enjoy so it will inspire your creative side.

6. Try shooting different things and in different places. Shoot outdoors scenes, and then shoot indoor closeups of still lifes, like flowers.

7. Play around with the different aperture setting and keep a record of what the setting were on each image. This will help you understand what the different aperture setting do to the image. Once you understand what the aperture does to images, then work on the shutter speed settings. After that work on both of them in combination. If you really want to learn digital slr photography these two are the key to understanding photography and becoming a good photographer.

8. Join a local photography club. These places usually have a mix of beginner to more experienced photographers who are willing to share information.

9. Buy the Nikon D3000 DSLR digital camera. This beginner’s camera from Nikon comes with an in-camera guide that will teach you the basics of photography. It’s like carrying around a book or class inside of the camera. It is an entry level camera for those wanting to learn more about photography, take more professional cameras, and graduate up from the "point and shoot" camera. The Guide mode simplifies things for those just learning about apertures, shutter speeds, infinity and all that other camera lingo. The camera comes with the automatic system as well as the full manual control so after this smart camera teaches you photography, you can go it on your own.

i want to study photography. i have background in film making. my husband said my shots (thru cellphone camera) are creative and i have the potential to be a good photographer.. if i will start studying with a private tutor, how long will it take to learn all.. basics, lightings, lenses, angles etc. thank you.

its just experience the more u play with ur camera the more u learn,

it will be good if u plan to take a tutor, also u can take a way to take online lessons from Lynda.com or the internet bloggers on youtube. the also provide good and informative stuff!

as an amature photographer, i will recommend you to start with just Basic photography and dont go in much technicalities in the start like as u mentioned about Lighting and lenses.. this is a bit advance topic considered in photography

once u knows all the basics then move towards the lighting and taking pictures with different lenses. this will not confuse you when u learning the basics.
