Where can I learn more about photography?

March 1st, 2010 by admin

I’d like to learn more about photography, but can’t pay for it. Is there a website or something that will give me information about things a camera will do (with photo examples), flash and how to use it, diffusers and how to use them, etc.? Most of what I’m finding online revolves around "outdoor" photography. I need something that teaches more on wedding-type photography. Thanks for any help!

There are literally hundreds of websites and pages on the internet with this kind of information. A quick search on Google will throw up plenty of options for whichever subject you wish to learn, I advise you to just look a little harder.

Here are some of my favourite sites for beginners to learn from…

Actually, this is a great resource:
    http://digital-photography-school.com/

    and the forum
    http://digital-photography-school.com/forum

    Also, here’s another great forum
    http://thephotoforum.com/forum

Note that, like every forum and such, there are always people who think highly about themselves. So, ignore them if that happens. But they’re mostly a likable bunch.

Apart from that, just search for such stuff as 101’s, tutorials in specific subjects, etc. There are others like these, too:

    http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/
    http://www.all-things-photography.com/
    http://www.luminous-landscape.com/

There’s a lot of info. out there. Especially on wedding – just search the forums I supplied.

    Enjoy your time! :)

go to a used book store and get books on the subject. you can usually find some decent ones for under $10… sometimes as low as $2 or $3….

Do not try any wedding type photography until you have at least a full year of experience with your camera. As a guest, you can photograph your friends with the couple, but do not think you can be the official photographer. The job is too important and the results will be rubbish.

Get hold of any old manual camera, with the back off look through the lens and observe what happens with different settings when you press the button. Then start reading old magazines, all full of articles, as is the web. Relate your reading to the camera lens settings. Worry about flash etc when you fully understand ISO film speed, F stops, aperture, shutter speed and how they interact.

Meanwhile practise talking to all strangers about anything. You cannot do weddings if you are shy with people.

Perhaps my website can help you out

    http://www.photoguides.net/

On there you’ll find various guides and tutorials, and certainly many more to come. I write them as i learn and then share them with everyone.
Once you’ve covered the basics, the best way to learn is to experiment.

    Hope that helps

there are literally unlimited books, and sites dedicated to pics.

having said that i woudl totally recommend that you take up a assistant job with a wedding photographer, he will tell you more about cameras and pics than you can learn in college in 4 years.

you can literally google for online photo course for a lot more stuff
