Could you recommend a good photography book for me?

March 6th, 2010 by admin

Hello

I am looking for a photography book on lighting, use of flash, understanding post processing techniques, or any really good photography book that has a workshop included with it. I would describe myself as a comfortable with photography, but still learning. I currently am using an SLR camera, and my main focus is portrait photography, specifically of children. I am trying to overcome the following obstacles:

1. Understanding how and when to use my external flash to the best of it’s ability
2. How and what techniques for post processing would be most beneficial.

I’ve been told my composition is spot on, I am not concerned with that. Mostly I want to gain a deeper understanding of flash, when it’s best to use it, how is best to use it, and as well of post processing tips and techniques.

I am working with Adobe CS4 and Lightroom 2.6.

Thanks in advance…

I think that Hot Shoe Diaries by Joe McNally may be exactly what you need. Also, for the best portrait and children photography books have a look at photography.pro people category. For post processing, see darkroom and software categories.
